Caring for our environment
ThenMedia, the team behind Chrestos, is based in Chester, with the Cheshire countryside and the river Dee more or less on the doorstep. It is a good place to work and we’d like it to stay that way.
So we get on with the practical things rather than making a lot of noise about them. Here is what that actually means.
Clean energy,

The electricity behind your website comes from renewable sources, and the data centres we use are working towards running on carbon free power around the clock, rather than balancing the books once a year.
It costs you nothing and your site behaves exactly the same. It simply runs on cleaner power than it otherwise would.
Small habits,
kept up
We all work from home, so there are no daily commutes and no office to heat and light. We keep our computers and equipment going for as long as they are safe to use, rather than replacing them on a schedule. And we write lean code, so every page uses a little less power each time somebody opens it.
None of that is dramatic. Done the same way year after year, it adds up.
Our servers are
in London
Every Chrestos site runs on servers in London. Not somewhere vague overseas, and not wherever happened to be cheapest that month.
Those London data centres are backed by 100% renewable energy purchases, matched every year since 2017. So your website sits close to the people using it, your data stays in the UK, and the power behind it is properly accounted for.
