Church display screens

Display screens
for your church

Any television or monitor can become a church display screen. We send the little box that runs it and design your slides; you choose the screen and where it goes.

Start with the screen you have

You do not need special equipment for a church display screen. Chrestos Digital Signage runs on any television or computer monitor with an HDMI socket, so a screen bought for the purpose and a spare television from the vestry both work perfectly well. We send you a small display unit that plugs into it, and the screen starts showing your slides in Full HD.

The display unit is a little box, 95mm by 65mm by 30mm, with its own USB power supply. It connects to the internet by WiFi or a network cable, collects your slides from our servers and is built to run all day, every day, using about half a watt of electricity.

Where church screens work best

Think about where people pause. The foyer as people arrive, the hall where they queue for tea, the porch that visitors shelter in, or the wall by the hatch where the lunch club gathers. A screen is most useful where people have a few seconds to look, at a height they can read without craning, and away from the glare of a bright window.

Screens can hang in landscape or portrait, and portrait often suits a narrow porch or the space beside a door. A circuit office or a district meeting room can have one too. To see what a screen can show from week to week, our digital notice board page walks through a typical loop of slides.

One screen or several

Plenty of churches start with one screen and add another once they see how it goes. Each screen can show its own slides, timings and transitions, so the hall can advertise the toddler group while the foyer welcomes Sunday visitors. Your first screen is £25 + VAT a month and each one after that is £15 + VAT a month, with no setup fee and no minimum contract.

Choosing and fitting the television

Choosing, buying and mounting the television is up to you, and it is usually best to ask somebody competent to fix it safely to the wall and tidy the cables away. We are very happy to talk through sizes and positions before you buy anything: just ring us on 01244 478727. There is more about the slides and the control panel on our church digital signage page.

What the screens can do

A few of the things churches ask us about first.

Any TV or monitor

HDMI is all it needs

A new screen or the spare one from the vestry: if it has an HDMI socket it will work, and we post you the small display unit that runs it.

Portrait or landscape

Whatever fits the wall

Hang the screen sideways or upright. Portrait suits narrow porches and the space beside a door, while landscape suits halls and foyers.

More than one screen

Each with its own slides

Extra screens are £15 + VAT a month each. The hall and the foyer can show different slides, timings and transitions, all run from one place.

The display unit

A small box,
any screen

The unit is not much bigger than a pack of cards and comes with its own USB power supply. Plug it into the screen with an HDMI lead, give it power and put it on your WiFi, and it starts collecting your slides in Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels).

It is designed to run around the clock and uses about half a watt, so the box can stay on all week. You may want to set the television itself to switch off overnight.

Where it goes

Where people
pause and look

The best place is wherever people stop for a moment: the foyer on a Sunday morning, the queue for tea in the hall, the porch where visitors wait out the rain. Set the screen at a comfortable reading height and away from a bright window.

If you are not sure, send us a photograph of the wall and we will happily share what has worked well in other churches.
